ARTSFUND OPENS CALL FOR ARTWORK ILLUSTRATING WHY ART MATTERS IN KING COUNTY
Seattle, WA – ArtsFund invites King County artists and community members to submit images of finished artwork that creatively illustrates the positive impact arts have in our community.
ArtsFund’s Social Impact Study—a comprehensive report documenting how the arts advance community priorities in King County—will be released in October 2018, and ArtsFund is looking for pre-existing or newly created artworks to illustrate the report. Submissions are invited in each of the following areas: Youth & Education, Health & Wellness, and Neighborhood Vitality. Arts and arts-based strategies are valuable tools in addressing racial and social injustice and bridging the cultural divide. Submissions that represent the diversity of King County are strongly encouraged.
One artist in each area will received a $1,000 award, and their artwork will be featured in publications and presentations related to the study, both digital and online, as well as on the ArtsFund website. Additional submissions in each category will also be featured on the ArtsFund website in an online gallery.
Mari Horita, ArtsFund President & CEO, stated, “In King County, while many are aware of the great work arts, cultural, and heritage organizations are doing on stages, in galleries, and in public spaces, there is less awareness of the important ways arts are advancing community priorities such as youth and education, health and wellness, and neighborhood vitality. ArtsFund—in collaboration with a cross-sector coalition of funders, advisors, and BERK Consulting—is producing this Social Impact Study to demonstrate how an investment in arts and culture is an investment in civic health and vitality. Through this open call, we are excited to be engaging artists and community members to join us in articulating why art matters in King County.”
The call is open to artists and community members who live or work in King County and are over the age of 13. Submissions are currently being accepted. Submissions must be received by August 21, 2018 at 11:59 pm PDT.
