ARTSFUND AWARDS $2.4 MILLION IN 2016 GRANTS
Seattle, WA – ArtsFund announced today that it will distribute $2,399,918 in grants to 53 nonprofit arts groups in King and Pierce Counties from its recently concluded annual fundraising campaign. With this allocation, ArtsFund’s grants surpassed $76.5 Million awarded since its founding in 1969.
Mari Horita, ArtsFund President & CEO, stated, “For nearly 50 years, ArtsFund has provided critical annual support to a wide range of nonprofit arts organizations in the region through programs, outreach, advocacy and grant making. We do all of this to help each arts group maintain a strong organizational foundation that allows them to innovate, take risks, and evolve. We do this to keep the sector strong because a healthier ecosystem strengthens all who are in it. And we do this to help ensure access, because the arts are a right, not a privilege.”
In 2015, ArtsFund’s grants helped 55 arts organizations mount over 10,150 exhibitions and productions, provide arts access and arts education to 786,181 students, offer 1,499,229 free or discounted tickets, and attract 7,105,803 visits.
Sandy McDade, ArtsFund Board Chair, added, “ArtsFund raises millions of dollars each year to support a large and diverse group of regional arts organizations through a rigorous grant allocations process. For many of these organizations, ArtsFund provides the largest unrestricted gift they receive each year. We are deeply grateful to the businesses, foundations, and individuals who contributed to this year’s campaign.”
Horita continued, “Investment in cultural organizations is an investment in the health and sustainability of our community. The data in ArtsFund’s recently released Economic Impact Study of Arts, Cultural, and Scientific Organizations in the Central Puget Sound Region demonstrates cultural organizations are a significant economic driver in the Central Puget Sound region, and an integral part of our regional identity and quality of life.”
Revenues from ArtsFund’s 45th annual drive, which ended on May 31st, support the 2016 grant allocations, as well as additional programs and services reaching more than 100 organizations throughout the Central Puget Sound region.
The 2016 Allocations Committee was led by Co-Chairs Sue Coliton, Washington State Arts Commission, and Mark Dederer, Sr. Vice President, Community Affairs Program, Wells Fargo Foundation.
